Funny ThingAbout Love
Directed by Tailiah Breon · Written by Christel Gibson · Story by Kameron Bain · Premiered 11 June 2026
Bouldercrest Films is a production company in Atlanta. We build stories from the ground up and make them for the places people actually watch.
The company was founded by Kameron Bain and works out of Atlanta, which is not a backdrop for us but the place the stories come from. Funny Thing About Love started here as an idea of his, went to Christel Gibson to write, and came back as a film — that route, from a room in Atlanta to a platform premiere, is the one we are set up to run.
We produce with partners rather than pretending to do everything alone. On Funny Thing About Love that meant Tycor International Film Company alongside us, and producers who have delivered features before. We would rather share a picture and get it made properly than hold all of it and get it made badly.
What we look for hasn't changed since the first script: Black stories with real interior lives, told with wit, shot with ambition, and finished to a standard that holds up on a big screen even when it premieres on a small one.
The feeling is the product. Everything else on the schedule is logistics in service of it.
Bouldercrest Films · Studio statementThe picture
Miles Morris is a bestselling author, and the book that made him is about the woman who left him. It lands days before their ten-year reunion at Hunter College, which means Alice Lewis has to watch her own history arrive on a shelf in front of everyone she grew up with — including one part of it Miles never knew he had missed.
A homecoming weekend in Atlanta, an HBCU campus, and two people who have to decide what the last decade actually meant. It is a comedy until it isn't.

Our best pictures start as an argument someone in this company could not let go of.
Funny Thing About Love began as a story by Kameron Bain and went to Christel Gibson to write. That is the shape we like: an idea with a point of view already in it, handed to a writer who can hear what it is trying to be, with a director attached early enough to write toward an actual camera.
We commit to a schedule of drafts up front and we pay at each one. A writer keeps their name on the picture and their draft history stays in the file. When a script is finished we say so and stop asking for changes, which is rarer than it should be and is most of what writers tell us they came here for.
Three titles are in development now — Flatline, Black Rage, and The Art of Dying. We announce casts and dates when they are real and not before.
What we look for
- A voice
- Something in the pages only this writer could have written. We would rather fix a structure than manufacture a sensibility.
- A body
- Feeling that lives in behaviour, not in dialogue explaining feeling. If the emotional turn can only be spoken aloud, it isn't finished.
- A place
- Stories that belong somewhere specific. We shoot in and around Atlanta and we cast the region, so a script rooted here starts closer to production.
- An audience
- Black stories with real interior lives. Nuance and wit are not a smaller ambition than spectacle — they are a harder one.
Sending us something
We read features from writers we have never met. What to send, what happens to it, and how long it takes is set out on the submission page.

We produce in Atlanta with Atlanta crews, and we bring partners in rather than pretend we don't need them.
Funny Thing About Love was produced by Kameron Bain through Bouldercrest Films alongside Errol Sadler, Ty Walker of Tycor International Film Company, and Durrann Brown. Four producers on a picture this size is not overhead — it is how a first feature from a young company gets finished on schedule and delivered to a platform's spec without drama.
The film was shot around Atlanta and set on a fictional HBCU campus, with a cast built out of people who understand that world. We frame at 2.39 : 1 and we finish to a theatrical standard, because a picture that holds up on a big screen loses nothing when it plays on a laptop, and the reverse is not true.
We are open to co-productions with companies who work the way we do. If you have a picture that needs an Atlanta partner, write to us.
Who we make with
Tycor International Film Company co-produced Funny Thing About Love.
Ty Walker produced the picture with us through Tycor, and the partnership is the reason a first feature from a young company reached a platform on schedule. We would work with them again and we are open to co-productions with companies who operate the same way.
What we bring
- Development
- Stories originated in-house, so a picture arrives at prep already knowing what it is.
- The region
- Atlanta locations, Atlanta crew, and casting that knows the culture the story sits in.
- Partners
- Co-production with companies who bring their own experience rather than only money.
- Delivery
- A finished picture that meets a streaming partner's technical spec the first time.

We make pictures for platforms, and we hand them over finished.
Funny Thing About Love premiered as an ALLBLK original — exclusive to ALLBLK in the United States, and available through the ALLBLK channel on Prime Video. One platform, one date, no staggered mess. For a film about a homecoming, landing in one place where its audience already is beat scattering it across five services nobody subscribes to.
The unglamorous half of this job is delivery. A platform partner should receive a package that passes QC the first time: masters that match spec, captions that are actually timed, audio description, artwork at every ratio they asked for, and metadata that doesn't have to be rewritten by someone on their side.
We are open to conversations with platforms and sales agents about the titles now in development.

A streaming premiere gets one night. Everything before it exists to make that night land.
Funny Thing About Love premiered on Thursday 11 June 2026, exclusively on ALLBLK. There is no platform release, no expansion, no second weekend to save you — the film is either found in its first days or it is buried by what drops next. So the work moves forward, into the weeks before the date.
The trailer went out in May, three weeks ahead. Press ran through outlets whose readers are the film's actual audience rather than whoever happened to be at a junket. The cast and the director did interviews. By the time the date arrived, the people most likely to love it already knew it existed, which is the entire job.

Kameron Bain
Kameron Bain founded Bouldercrest Films and produces through it. Funny Thing About Love is his — the story is his credit, and he produced the picture alongside Errol Sadler, Ty Walker, and Durrann Brown, with Tycor International Film Company co-producing.
The company runs the way he works: start with a story worth arguing about, get a writer who can hear it, find a director who can shoot it, and bring in partners who have done it before rather than learning on someone else's money.

Send it. We read scripts from writers we have never met, and we answer all of them.
Most companies this size say they are closed to unsolicited work, and most of them mean it. We don't, because our own first picture started as an idea nobody had asked for. A script from someone with no agent and no credits is not a lower-quality script — it is an unread one.
Send the finished feature as a PDF and one page telling us why this one and why you. Nothing else. No lookbook, no mood board, no list of the stars you would cast, no comparable-titles slide. If the pages work they work.
What happens next
- We read it
- A person reads it, all the way through, not a page count and a logline.
- We answer
- Yes or no, either way. If we pass we tell you what stopped us.
- You keep it
- Sending us a script gives us no claim on it. Nothing changes hands unless we option it and you sign.
- If we option
- Paid drafts on an agreed schedule, and your name stays on the picture.
